Founded in May 2009 under the auspices of interested parties and Ministry of Agriculture, “Serbia Organica” serves as a pivotal organization dedicated to fostering the growth of organic farming and enhancing the visibility of organic practices within Serbia. This leading organization consolidates the entire organic agriculture sector across the Republic of Serbia, positioning itself as a crucial strategic ally to both domestic and international institutions. Its mission is to streamline and synchronize the progression of organic agriculture throughout the nation.

Serbia Organica is an esteemed member of several prestigious national bodies: the Expert Council for Organic Production and the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the Pre-accession Program for Rural Development of the European Union (IPARD) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia (MoAWF)

“Serbia Organica” joins a whole organic sector within the Serbian territory (producers, processors, distributors, certification bodies, associations, centres, educational and scientific institutions). Moreover Serbia Organica is a strategic partner to governmental and foreign institutions in projects related to coordination and harmonization of compliance in the organic agriculture in Serbia.

Serbia Organica has been participating in the development of national strategies and action plans in the field of agriculture and organic agriculture of MoAWF.

The first organic agriculture training for all state extension service advisors was designed and implemented by Serbia Organica, based on its own curriculum. After that, for years we participated in the creation of annual curricula for the extension service of the MoAWF, but our experts and members were also lecturers/trainers at those trainings and workshops.

In addition to close cooperation with the MoAWF, Serbia Organica also achieved significant cooperation with the Institute for the Improvement of Education of the Ministry of Education, lobbying for the introduction of the subject of organic agriculture in Secondary Agricultural Schools throughout Serbia since 2010, and also participating in the development of the curriculum and educating Agricultural School professors in the field of organic agriculture and processing for years based on the obtained licenses of the Institute for Improvement of Education.

Since 2023, one innovative initiative has focused on developing the BioDistrict model across Serbia, starting with the Kolubara region. This approach, protected under the brand name “BioDistrict” by the Serbian Institute for Intellectual Property, aims to replicate sustainable agricultural practices nationwide, enhancing local economies and biodiversity. Since 2022, Serbia Organica has been involved in the process of transforming food systems in Serbia to promote sustainable agricultural models and address critical issues identified in the Food System Transformation National Pathways.
